Today started off a bit anticlimactic…not quite the epic conditions that have been built up to be expected although, by 4 pm the breeze had delivered and was full-on, leaving plenty of carnage across the course. Many of the top Masters advanced to the third round leaving Anna Tunnicliffe as the sole youngster in the crowd. Anna will be facing off against Scott in the first race tomorrow during the first round. Scott’s comment, ‘Hey, if I have to lose…better it be to an Olympic Gold medalist!’
For me the highlight of today, as a spectator, was watching Peter Shope in the last race of the day when the wind was at its peak. According to the rules, you can capsize during the final gybe while crossing the finish line and still finish first. Hitting marks is part of the game too. Check out the photo sequence below. Peter did just that after leading around the course ….he kept us at the edge of our seats and gave the audience a show.
